I started watching Breaking Bad on Netflix some time ago, but watched very intermittently. As the show has grown into a cultural phenomenon I started consuming it at a much quicker pace, especially after I spent some time with Jonah at a Libery21 event at Hillsdale College last spring. He said the show is profoundly conservative and made some comments as to why he thought so. I am so glad he decided to really flesh that out for us at NRO in a five internet page piece: “Breaking Bad Breaks Through: For the best show on television, this year’s Emmy win was long overdue.” Jonah’s powers of cultural observation always impress me, but he’s at his best here. His insights on the profoundly moral nature of reality as it intersects with popular culture are fantastic. Enough of the superlatives, though, just read it and see what I mean.
