Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians perform a less-well-known but charming Christmas favorite, “Ring Those Christmas Bells,” from 1957. The video includes some appealing visual images to match the music. Waring was a very popular band leader during the 1920s, ’30s, and ’40s, and his music is well worth seeking out, especially his 1920s output. He started out as a fairly hardcore jazzer and evolved toward a more mainstream but equally enjoyable style.—STK
Thanks, Steve. It’s fun to take the occasional trip to a more optimistic, cheerful, can-do sort of a culture. I hope that showing that such things can and should be part of our lives will encourage others to help make our current culture more like that, through their patronage and support of good cultural products.
I hope you’ll find the new site design much easier to navigate and the new sections very informative.
Merry Christmas to you, too!
Sam,
This brought back memories! My parents had this recording on an LP collection of Waring doing Christmas standards. I might still have it around somewhere. Thanks for the post. New site design looks great!.
Merry Christmas.
Steve
