TAC reporter-analyst Jim Lakely writes very well about politics in addition to his work on culture and telecom issues. He recently wrote an interesting and penetratingly critical article for the Infinite Monkeys blog in which he does something a bit unusual.

He holds the president accountable for being president. Specifically, he suggests that it is time for the president to stop telling us how difficult his job is and just do it.

In cultural terns I think that this is indeed an important point. A culture of personal responsibility is an essential prerequisite for individual liberty, and accepting one’s duties and life’s inevitable challenges with grace, determination, and equanimity is the sign of an individual who understands and accepts their responsibilities.

Our leaders should be exemplary in this regard, and Jim Lakely is right to remind us of this important requirement of service in high office. Read the whole thing here.
