The long-running USA Network series Psych ends its run tonight (9 EDT) after eight seasons. Psych creator and showrunner Steve Franks promises that although tonight’s final episode will provide closure for the show’s fans, it will leave things open for a future feature film (a la Veronica Mars) and other projects, with viewers allowed to imagine the adventures of Shawn and Gus continuing after the series’ close.
Along with Monk, the show helped establish USA Network as a TV power, averaging four million viewers per episode in its early seasons. In recent years its ratings had fallen, with the show attracting just under 1.7 million viewers per episode this season.
Tonight’s episode will be followed by an hour-long live program called Psych After Pshow, in which Franks and the cast will discuss the show with a studio audience.
