It really is insane just how little we human beings know. This entertaining video of how much is not visible to us is certainly cause for humility. Back in the day when Newtonian physics ruled, when everything supposedly worked like clockwork, human beings figured they were close to, or already had, unlocked the secrets of the universe; now, not so much. Einstein sort of blew a hole in that certitude. Some still think science can give us absolute assurance that we know how and why the universe works. Invisible stuff makes that a very daunting proposition.

Given my lifelong penchant to always be asking what all this means, I can’t help but marvel that some people either don’t care or have no interest beyond the mundane, and others are convinced none of it has an extrinsic meaning beyond its “thereness”. I would take this video and encourage my absolutist atheist friends, and those atheists who’ve written books and engaged popular culture, to mull over the invisible and maybe do a little certainty qualifying. To me the visible universe is humbling enough, but the invisible leaves me dumbfounded.

I remember a saying I heard or read somewhere sometime ago and it went something like this: “The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know.” Words of wisdom in light of the invisible.
