Bill Nye, the Science Guy

Bill Nye (a.k.a. PBS‘s “the Science Guy”) is enjoying a resurgence in popularity, this time on the Internet, with his YouTube video in which he all but calls parents (“grownups”) ignoramuses for teaching their children anything but evolution:

“[I]f you want to deny evolution and live in your world that is completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine. But don’t make your kids do it, because we need them. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future.” — Dave Bohon, ” ‘Science Guy’ Attacks Parents Who Teach Children Creation ‘Story’,” The New American, 31 August 2012

Nowadays rabid evolutionists have adopted an approach which either implies or outright claims that questioning evolution is the equivalent of child abuse. Nye adds a new wrinkle: Keep it up, parents, and you’ll produce of crop of scientifically ignorant voters who might actually object to throwing away taxpayer funds for big science/big government projects, thus threatening support for our favorite junk science programs, such as fetal stem cell “research,” “global warming,” and the unchallenged indoctrination of school children in the pseudoscience of materialistic evolution.

Dr. Georgia Purdom: She’s skeptical…

Nye weakens his case considerably, however, by making factually incorrect statements about how widespread in world cultures creationism is—i.e., the belief that God or gods made life independently of purely natural methods—saying, instead, that the “denial of evolution is unique to the United States.”

…and so is he.

And in the light of recent bio-science discoveries at the sub-molecular level, for him to assert the universe “just becomes fantastically complicated when you don’t believe in evolution” is risible.

It makes you wonder just who is in de-NYE-al here.
